Mets take rubber game

The Mets won today in Florida vs the Marlins by a score of 9-2.  R.A. Dickey won for the Metropolitans while Javier Vazquez took the loss for the fish.

Dickey started for the Mets today and he looked great.  He did struggle slightly with his command and walked a few uncharacteristically, but other wise worked well.  Josh Thole did a pretty good job catching him except for a few passed balls.

Ike Davis and Willie Harris both hit home runs for the Mets.

The Florida Marlins committed three errors, eight hits, and nine, yes nine, walks.  Also, Daniel Murphy played well in the field and hit a long ground rule double.

The Mets will be playing the Philadelphia Phillies starting Tuesday for a three game series with Chris Young, Big Pelf, and Jon Niese pitching for New York.

Mets lose opener

The Mets lost their first game of 2011 last night at Sun Life Stadium in Florida against the Marlins.  The final score ended up being 6-2 with the Mets only collecting 4 hits.

To be honest, I was pissed last night at the team.  They could only must four hits in the entire game and two runs.  But, now that I slept on it, Josh Johnson was dominant last night, and that was expected by many.  I was just disappointed that we looked so flat.

Pelfrey’s performence was the most gut-wrenching thing for me last night.  He allowed 5 runs and four walks last night, and had little to no command of his fastball.  Mike left his ball up on a few pitches but he was constantly down.  Too down.  He would either miss in the dirt or he would never changed the hitters eye level.  I was really expecting Pelf to go out their and pitch well, his being so excited for this game.  It was deflating for Mets fans.

Beltran played well, and ran well, which was great.  I was really happy to see that.  Willie Harris played well, and I’m impressed with him.

Terry Collins remained very positive last night, which makes the loss a little less hurtful.  But, David Wright’s at bats last night really made me ********** and feel like we were still in 2010.  He can’t catch up to the ball.  He needs to drop all of the b.s. and get rid of the leg kick, as he did in 2006, 07, and 08.

The Mets and Jon Niese are going to be taking on the Marlins tonight at 7:10pm.

Mets split squad games

The Mets played a split squad series today versus the Atlanta Braves.  I haven’t had much time to blog today, so here are some quick notes.

  • The Mets won their home game, 7-4, and tied their second game at 3-3 in Orlando, FL.
  • Chris Capuano was lights out, pitching over five scoreless innings.  That also included striking out four out of five batters in a row.  With the Mets re-assigning Boof Bonser and sending Dillion Gee to AAA, it looks like he will be a viable starter and he’s a benefit because he is a southpaw.
  • Scott Hairston did it again, driving in three runs and hitting a triple.
  • Willie Harris went yard and Nick Evans had a good day with the bat.
  • Oliver Perez let up four runs in less than one inning.  He walked one, a batter who was lefty, and non of his pitches were close.  It needs to end, NOW.  This can’t keep going on.  Even Dan Warthen, Ollie’s supporter, appears to be fed up.  Although Sandy Alderson wasn’t at the game, Jeff Wilpon was, which is encouraging of you are rooting against Perez.

Santana, Mets Struggle

The Mets lost their second straight series to open the season today.  The Mets were on the losing end of a 5-2 game.

Johan Santana started off in the worst way, giving up a triple to Nyjer Morgan.  Johan then walked the 2 other batters.  With one out, Willingham drove a ball into center field, hitting the wall.  Three runners scored and Josh was thrown out at home.  The hit was reviewed and ruled a grand slam.

The Mets could not get anything going against Hernandez.  He gave up 5 sparatic hits and three walks.

Later in the game, Mike Jacobs finally hit a 2-run homer, breaking out of his 1-14 slump.

Francisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless 9th inning, but not without some excitement.  Franky hit Willie Harris on the elbow and Willie while walking down to 1st, he stared at K-Rod and had some choice words for him.  Franky was agitated, and walked toward Willie, yelling and going after him.  The benches cleared yet no puches were thrown.

Jeff Francoeur is on fire, getting 2 more hits today.

I was very disappointed about Johan.  We really needed to win this series and head to Colorado on a good foot.  He settled down after the 1st, but the Mets couldnt come back.  The Mets’ offense has been stagnant.  I was very happy that K-Rod stood up for himself.

After the game, Willie Harris said Francisco started the argument.  Yet, when you look at the tape, he clearly started the confrontation.
