Jeff, you’re the joke

Jeff Francoeur had this to say about Citi Field.

“Citi Field is a damn joke.” -Jeff Francoeur

You’re the damn joke, Frenchy.  You didnt do anything to make me think otherwise while you were here.  In fact, you were one of the worst hitting outfielders in the majors.  And, most of the team was able to hit there, considering David hit 12 bombs in that very place.

Who’s the damn joke now Frenchy?  You’re tucked away in Kauffman Stadium where no one will ever here from you again.  Good bye and good riddens.

Mets in Houston

The Mets won their first game in Houston versus the Astros Monday night, by a score 3-1.  Jon Niese to-ed the hill for the Mets and was good yet again, allowing one run in seven innings and keeping the Astros at bay while runners were in scoring position.

The Mets’ offense looked a little better tonight.  Beltran hit his second homer of the season, while also collecting another hit and making playing good defense in the outfield.  I was at the game, and I really loved that he went deep, considering how badly he gets booed in Minute Maid.  I still dont know why he keeps getting booed.  I mean, didnt Astros fans realize thatt he was probably a rental player and that he hasnt been great in New York?  They, for $19 million, should be happy they didnt sign him.

David Wright collected three singles, and made some great defensive plays, including a diving catch on the line to save an extra base hit.

Pedro Feliciano got the win tonight as he came in and got out of a bases loaded, two out jam.  Although he allowed the runner on first to reach on a terrible error.  Hisanori Takahashi came in and collected his first save, a 1-2-3 inning.

Just to mention, Jeff Francoeur had an RBI triple and was thrown out at home on a ball to first, buut he was clearly save at the plate.  It was surprising thatt the home plate umpire made the error and not  the second or third base umpires.  Those two were Angel Hernandez and Joe West.  Francoeur also just missed a three-run homer.

I had a great time at the game, and I advise anyone who is in the Houston area to go see a game.  I was happy to get an autograph from the ‘animal’ Chris Carter and one from David Wright.  Frenchy was also nice enough to throw me a baseball.

In the paragraphs above, I mentioned that Hisanori Takahashi collected the save for the Mets.  That was because the Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez will likely miss the rest of the season with a tron ligament in his finger.

He reportedly injured it when he punched his father-in-law at Citi Field.  He was arrested and charged with third-degree assult.

The Mets are reportedly attempting to void K-Rod’s contract, I hope it happens.

Kudos to David Wright and Carlos Beltran tonight, great game guys.

Mets news

Jeff Francoeur needs to understand.  He needs to get a grasp on what he is capable of and how he performs.  Apparently Frenchy is unhappy with his playing time and that he is unhappy with the Mets’ decision to call up Fernando Martinez.  He had a closed door meeting with Jerry Manuel and discussed what his role.  From wha I understand, he is in talks and has had previous discussions with the front office about him leaving and being traded to a team where he could play full time.

I really am getting annoyed with Francoeur.  Believe me, I am one of his biggest supporters.  But, he apparently doesnt realize what the teams objective is and what it should be.  The team needs to play their young-guns.  The Mets need to see what they have in these players and to determine what moves need to be made in the offseason, because it is unlikely the Mets will make the playoffs, and I dont believe they will.

Jeff is hitting under .250, with many many cold streaks and and 10 homers.  He doesnt walk or take any pitches, and he really hurts the team.  I love his defense, but he needs to either change his ways and get a clue.  I truely doubt that he will be a Met next season.

The Mets are reportedly being sued by a fan who was struck by the barrel of a bat at Shea Stadium in 2007.  This is being reported by Adam Rubin.  I am not sure of the name of the sue-er and of the amount being desired.  They did not have any comment as of this afternoon.

Why in the world is he sue-ing now?  Maybe he needs the money or something of that matter, but this is what is the matter with this country.

You shouldnt be allowed to be sue over a matter like that.  I mean, its i your fault for buying a seat too close and that could happen anywhere.  Sounds fishy to me and will likely be covered by the Mets’ insurance.

Mets Update

Reporters today asked a lot of questions when it came to the job status of Jerry Manuel as the teams manager.  Both Jerry and Omar Minaya answered questions on the topic.  The Mets have been struggling over their last seven games, not scoring more than four runs in any of those games.  The Mets have come out of the break flat, especially the offense.  The Mets are currently six and a half games back of the Atlanta Braves.

Omar Minaya during his time with the media backed up his manager, saying:

“Jerry Manuel is our manager. Look, any time you’re going to have a couple of losing streaks, those things are going to pop up. But there’s no discussion at all. Jerry Manuel is our manager, will be our manager. I’m very happy with the job that he’s doing.”

Personally, I really don’t think its Jerry’s falt that the team can’t hit.  And, I wonts. be pissed if Jerry gets fired, just as long as Omar goes with him.  Omar doesn’t deserve to be able to fire two managers and nothing happens.

The Mets are also reported to be shopping Jeff Francoeur and that he is unhappy about his playing time.  Truly, he cannot at all complain.  He hasn’t hit at all.  He has hit under .150 in July.  He deserves to ride the pine.  If he is going to end up calling a big fuss, than he needs to go.  We cant have him taking down the clubhouse.

Mets win 2-1 in 20th

The Mets played a doozie today (and tonight) at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.  The Mets entered the game with Johan Santana toeing the rubber against rookie Jaime Garcia.

Both offenses left numerous runners on base through the first 9 innings.  Santana and Garcia both pitched stellar outings.

For the entire boxscore, click here.

Here are some game notes (a lot of ’em):

  • Johan pitched 7 scoreless innings
  • Reyes, Bay, and Francoeur were all 0 for 7
  • Reyes and Francoeur both had sac flies to give the Mets the lead
  • Every Mets player participated in the game except Oliver Perez
  • K Rod blew his first save opportunity
  • Mike Pelfrey saved the game!!!
  • Lopez and Mather both pitched in relief
  • Joe Mather took the loss
  • The Mets’ offense was dismal, yet they won the game
  • This game was full of luck

The Mets really needed this one tonight.  Apparently, Francoeur really wanted to pitch tonight.  And, that would have been quite the sight.

Tonights game lasted 6 hours and 53 minutes

Boy, its a good thing the Mets dont play until 8pm tomarrow.  I have a feeling the Mets will be sleeping in tomarrow.

I was really impressed with the Mets bullpen.  They got out of huge jams.

The Mets and John Maine play the Cardinals tomarrow night on ESPN.

And, congrats to Ubaldo Jimenez on his no-hitter against, who else, the Braves.  It doesnt get much better.

Crazy Game

The Mets played a crazy game versus the Phillies today.  Oliver Perez was terrible once again today.  He allowed 6 ER and 2 homers in 0.2 innings.  He excited the game once he fell behind Pedro 3-0.  Figueroa got out of the inning but gave up 2 runs later.  Other members of the bullpen suceeded and others struggled.  Pagan had 2 homers, one of which was an inside the park homer when Victorino forgot the rules in the MLB.  The Mets came within 9-7 with 2 runners on with nobody out in the 9th when Francoeur lined into a triple play.

2009 MLB Umpires

The umping has gotten even worse recently with umpires continually missing calls that are not even close.  Last night, Francoeur was stealing second when Jimmy Rollins caught the ball thrown by Ruiz.  The ball sailed and Rollins got the ball and tried to tag Frenchy.  He missed the tag by over 8 inches and still got the call.  He was out.  Francoeur was furious and Manuel was ejected from the game.  Maybe its time to retrain the umpires in the offseason.

Francoeur is Good

Jeff Francoeur has been doing well since joining the Mets nine days ago.  In the nine games, he is batting .324 with 1 homer and 7 RBI.  Although he has made some errors and lost a ball in the lights, that stuff happens and he’s an upgrade from Church.
