Mets 7 Marlins 1
The Mets opened up the 2010 baseball season today with a 7 to 1 win over Florida. Straw threw out the first pitch to Hojo to start the day.
Santana pitched like his usual self, 6 innings pitched, one run and a few hits. Santana’s change-up was great, especially against Maybin. Thats what makes a Met fan happy. He got out of a couple jams, along with a few 11+ pich at bats.
David Wright started off the Mets’ season and his own by going yard in the first. He took it to the opposite field which is a great sign. Jason Bay had a single and a big triple which started the scoring in the 6th. Gary Matthews Jr, Rod Barajas, and Jason Bay all had 2 hits. What a way to say “Im here!!!’
Fernando Nieve was solid along with Frankie, who closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning.
I really liked how the Mets played good defensive and smart baseball. They really payed attention to the little things. I also liked the attemted squeeze, which was great although it wasnt successful.
The Marlins had a dismal game in the field. 3 errors in one inning and 2 op-ups were allowed to fall in shallow center.
The Mets will play on Tuesday at 7:10 with John Maine on the mound
Niese May Make Start In Houston
Jon Niese may make Fernando Nieve’s start in
Houston.
Braves 7 Mets 1
The Mets were killed once again tonight. The Mets were able to get runners on but not able to get them home. Frenchy had the only RBI for the Mets. In the second, Fernando Nieve was injured running the bases. This has to be awful for the clubhouse.
Changes
Will the Mets Rotation have a different look after the All-Star break? It looks like Livan will get one more start until he is evaluated and Nieve the same.
Mets v Reds (Game 1)
The Mets take on B. Arroyo with F. Nieve on the mound for the Mets. Angel Pagan returns tonight with Nick Evans getting optioned down to the minors.
I can never understand why Nick Evans is the one getting sent down…He can hit.
Reds 3 Game Series
The Cincinatti Reds come to Queens to play their first series in the new stadium. Bronson Arroyo will take on Fernando Nieve. Arroyo has had some really good starts and some horrible starts. Fernando Nieve has struggled in his last 2 starts after 3 strong starts.
The 2nd game of the series will feature Cueto vs. Johan. Cueto is coming off a terrible loss in Philadelphia where he gave up 9 runs in 0.2 innings. The Reds lost 22-1! Johan is coming off a tough loss in Philly.
And, the 3rd game will have Aaron Harang going against Pelfrey. Harang hasn’t won a game since may and Mike Pelfey struggled badly against the Dodgers.
