Thole and Jenrry

The Mets placed Jenrry Mejia on the disabled list earlier this week, because of a complete MCL tear which will require Tommy John surgery, keeping him out for up to twelve months.  This is bad, for Mejia and the Mets.  It’s a real shame about Jenrry.  He was a good fall back option if someone got injured or wasn’t producing.

Also, the Mets had to place Pedro Beato on the disabled list with elbow tendinitis.  Come on, can they catch a break?  At this rate, the Mets will need to get someone if the injuries persist.  The Mets called up Mike O’Connor.

After watching the last few Mets games, I am becoming increasingly worried about Josh Thole.  For one, he isn’t hitting.  He grounded into a 1-2-3 double play last night which resulted in zero runs and a loss.

But that isn’t the worst.  Josh Thole cannot catch the ball.  He has been dropping pitches left and right, including more than one last night that he should have caught.  Granted, R.A. Dickey was pitching last night.  But Josh was missing pitches he should normally catch and he appears to be lazy behind the plate.  They (the Mets) need to find a solution to this problem…quickly.

Also, for Rangers fans, Im looking to go to the Mets v. Rangers game in June.  Any tips on where to stay or what seats are best for autographs, that would be great.

Spring Training Game One

The Mets are going to play their first game of the spring today at Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie against the Atlanta Braves.  I’m looking forward to finally see the team play live games.  If you live in the New York, Northeast area, you can likely see the game on WPIX.  Here is the projected starting lineup:

1. Jose Reyes — SS

2. Luis Castillo — 2B

3. David Wright — 3B

4. Angel Pagan — CF

5. Jason Bay — LF

6. Ike Davis — 1B

7. Josh Thole — C

8. Scott Hairston — DH

9. Fernando Martinez — RF

The starter for the Mets today will be Jenrry Mejia with Manny Acosta, Pedro Beato, Taylor Buchholz and others expected to pitch in relief today.

I’m excited to see Pedro Beato pitch considering I haven’t ever seen him pitch and I hear he can bring it on the mound.

Around Baseball; Mets Venture to San Juan

The Mets will be playing a series tonight in San Juan, Puerto Rico versus the Florida Marlins.  The condition and attitude around these two clubs are at total opposite ends of the baseball spectrum.  The Mets are coming off a big series win ve. the Twins while the Marlins are coming into the series after being swept by the Padres.

The Mets will have some decisions to make regarding the club in the next coming weeks,  The biggest challenge, how to swing a Cliff Lee deal without giving up big prospects if Lee refuses to sign an extension.

The Mets are unwilling to trade Jenrry Mejia and other ‘big’ names for a three month rental player who is determined to test the free agent waters this coming offseason.

Reports also state that the Mets will not be interested in Kevin Millwood of the Orioles or Jake Westbrook of the Indians.  Personally, I agree that these would not be the top people to be going after because I dont think these two could change the season like Cliff Lee can.  But, these two may come VERY cheap, prospects wise.

The other problem is that recently, Jenrry has had shoulder stiffness and had to leave his last start.

On the other side of the coin, the Marlins are stubbling.  There coaching staff is in flux also.  Fredi Gonzalez was fired this past week and replaced by a minor league coach.  Also, two additionals coaches were fired along with one another coach who resigned after Fredi was fired.

Bobby Valentine may be in the running for the job.

Also, be sure to VOTE for David Wright for the All Star game.

Mets Take on Tigers; Make Roster Moves

The Mets are going to be taking on the Detroit Tigers starting tomarrow night at Citi Field.  The first game of the series will feature Jon Niese and Justin Verlander.  The Mets, after losing two tough subway series games, will be looking to get on the right track.

I really think the Mets could end up struggling against Verlander.  Especially David Wright.  He cant catch up to a 92 MPH let alone a 100 MPH fastball.

The Mets optioned Jenrry Mejia to Double-A and recalled pitcher Bobby Parnell from Triple-A.  They will put Mejia into the starting rotation.

Also, John Maine will visit his doctor due to a ‘discomfort’ in his shoulder.
